A game of chess.
Two men shaking hands while staring at
each other knowing that one of them would win. It was a game of chess for the
world but for Robert Vanke and Adam Messy it was a game for their countries.
Robert Vanke, a retired science professor from Serbia was told to play a match
against an American, Adam Messy, a famous veteran and retired as professor.
Robert Vanke and Adam Messy were great
assets for their country. They used to provide information from such corners of
the earth that it felt impossible when heard. They carried important
information and sources which led them to have low profile in every aspect.
They used to change their identity from time to time.
In 1943 they both met for the first
time, in the alliance of British colony in Serbia. Both served as undercover
agents and completed every task which was given to them. Even if it was to
stand next to death.
They both now retired, living a
non-descript life, as if they have disappeared from the world. But they were
always in touch with the government.
The reason behind the chess match was
complex yet simple as no one knew the truth. A moment came when Robert Vanke
and Adam Messy were called together to meet at the BIS (British intelligence
station).
Monday evening, both of them reached
the BIS. The men had no idea of what was going on. They tried their best to
know but they had to wait till the time came. They got to know that this
mission was led by General Haydn and General Mark Lane from Serbia and America
respectively. They knew that if this information placed in wrong hands then it
would cause WW3.
A closed-door meeting told them that they are given a task to
exchange such information that would benefit their countries future. After
hearing it out, none of them could reject the task and the responsibility.
Serbia and America had a deal of arms and
oil resources. Serbia provided oil whereas America supplied them with arms and
ammo. The deal between them stayed secret as the governments were having people
who would share information with enemy country. If the information got leaked
it would also destroy everything that stood in the name of their countries.
Such classified plans need classified
people. People on whom the government could rely upon.
Information about the military was as
important as oil. Americans would face a decade of famine of oil if they do not
accept the deal. Serbia was not ready for cold war. A cold war which could
destroy its economy and bleed it dry.
The entire world was oblivious of this
partnership. In their mind, America and Serbia do not need any help. But the
truth remained between these two countries.
Once again Robert and Adam came face
to face but in a different place with a different mission. They were briefed
about the whole systematic planning and the idea of how things would take a
nasty turn if this all not goes well.
Neither America nor Serbia could
afford a traitor. The entire deal to cement the trust between the countries was
to take place in the International Chess Championship taking place at
Switzerland. A match between America and Serbia.
Robert and Adam in their roles as
chess players. The deal between these two countries depended on the game.
Robert and Adam were given the moves
according to which they had to play. A set of moves which led to the acceptance
of the deal. A deviation in moves meant that the deal is not accepted by the
other side.
The exchange of information would be
hand to hand in the same place after the match would be played. As the chess
competition required ID’s and qualification, these all were provided to them a
week before.
The day comes.
The opening match of the competition
was between America and Serbia. The court was filled with judges and Ministers
among the spectators.
Everybody took seat. General Mark and
General Haydn sat next to each. An exchange of firm handshakes and warm smiles.
General Mark gave a look to Robert indicating to do as he was told to.
A day before the match, the American
agency tapped the phone of General Haydn to know whether he was trust worthy. A
last moment check-up. They got to know that Haydn was providing information to
Israel and Russia.
It looks like a draw match but this
was only between them because the world didn’t know.
Robert played with the same moves as
he was told to but the last move was such a checkmate to Adam, which shook the
entire country of Serbia.
America won the opening match and
saved themselves from the chaos. General Haydn looking nervously at General
Mark while he gives him a smile.
How a game of chess can change
everything.
THE END

Good attempt. Keep writing.
